I used to think that side hustles were a waste of time, so I get it if you still do. Then the lockdowns happened and I had to find something to do that was productive to keep me sane (ish). What I have learnt in the last 10 months is that you can make decent money through side hustles, you just need to work your talents and skills to your favour. Unlike your standard 9 to 5 job, side hustles bring the promise of unlimited earning with them – we these 5 do at least:
1. Teaching or Tutoring Online
This pandemic has done a number on education systems around the country, and even around the world. With so many children learning from home (an estimated 160 million globally), and even more than that in the number of parents who feel like they are totally out of their depth – a tutoring business can earn you a very decent living. The more kids you teach, the more you can earn.
2. Freelancing
Freelancing has been around for decades, the difference with side hustle freelancing is that it is not your sole source of income – it is supplementary. That means that you can work as little or as much as you want, it is entirely up to you and your capacity. Choose freelancing jobs that are aligned with your skillset because the more experience you have, the more you can charge.
3. Stock Trading
Stock markets are where individual and company investors go to buy and sell shares in a public venue. There are so many places to learn how to trade stock online as well as many stock trading apps. A day trader can expect to earn around 80k a year if they’re using the right platform, but the more time and money you invest the more you can make.
4. Voice Acting
This one might be a little out of the left-field but if you have a great voice then you should use it to your advantage. If you have ever been told that you have a radio voice, then this is a side hustle for you. Voice acting can earn you anything from $100 to $1000 per job, which is great for something that requires no specific skills or effort on your part.
5. Copywriting
Copywriting applies to a wide range of industries that need advertising and promotional content created for the internet or print publishing. It is not the same as writing blog articles (which I will touch on at the end). Copywriting is different because it is designed to inform the reader as well as containing a call to action – something that convinces the reader to take the next step. That is why copywriting can earn you anywhere from $80 to $800 per hour.
Write Blog Articles
Writing blog articles is different from being a copywriter. Blog articles are designed to entertain and inform readers. You can write blogs for almost all major blog sites or websites with blogs – provided your writing is good enough. Some of the best writers can comfortably expect to earn $250 to $500 per article.
